Job Summary

Increase visibility and positive perceptions of Bethel University among prospective students, donors, and other constituent groups through compelling digital-first design. The Digital Designer creates high-impact, mobile-responsive, and accessible assets—including web graphics, email layouts, display advertising, social media visuals, motion graphics, and presentation materials—that reflect Bethel’s brand personality, safeguard consistency, and drive measurable results in enrollment, retention, and fundraising.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities

  1. Digital Design – 80%
    1. Create, adapt, and optimize design assets for digital channels (web, email, social media, paid media, digital signage, and motion/interactive formats).
    2. Translate brand guidelines into persuasive, ADA-compliant digital experiences that support enrollment and advancement goals.
    3. Develop scalable digital templates (e.g., Canva, Adobe Express, email platforms) to empower non-designers while maintaining brand quality.
    4. Stay current on design and platform trends (social, UX, responsive design, motion graphics) and integrate them into Bethel’s creative work.
    5. Provide digital design guidance and mentorship to student workers.
  2. Collaboration and Workflow - 15%
    1. Collaborate with project managers, marketing strategists, writers, and other creatives to understand project objectives, audiences, and desired outcomes.
    2. Present and refine designs based on stakeholder feedback, balancing creative innovation with consistency and performance metrics.
    3. Manage timelines, prioritize concurrent digital projects, and ensure design deliverables align with deadlines and campaign goals.
  3. Asset Management - 5%
    1. Organize, tag, and maintain digital assets (graphics, templates, motion files) to improve design effectiveness and workflow efficiency.

Required Skills

  • Strong expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, XD/After Effects), plus experience with Canva, Adobe Express, or other template-based platforms.
  • Familiarity with web/email platforms (e.g., CMS, email marketing systems such as Mailchimp, Slate, or similar).
  • Knowledge of ADA-compliance, accessibility standards, and responsive design principles.
  • Ability to design assets tailored to multiple digital channels and campaign goals.
  • Strong time management skills with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with ability to present work and incorporate feedback effectively.
  • Capacity to learn and adapt quickly to emerging tools and design trends.
  • Understanding of print production processes a plus.

Experience

  • 1+ years of related experience.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, digital design, interactive media, or a related field.

Additional Information

Travel: This position requires little to no travel.

 

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as desktop and/or laptop computers, photocopiers and smartphones.

Expected Hours of Work:

Typically, days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, with the expectation to work specific schedules and hours as identified and communicated by management. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. This is a 40 hour per week, 12 months per year position
