Job Summary

Supports the office operations for Safety & Security and is the face of the department by providing front-line representation of the security office.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exemplary front-line customer service for the Safety and Security office, handling customer complaints and inquiries regarding parking, permits, citations, identification card distribution and programming, Shuttle Services, and Lost and Found.
  • Hires, trains, schedules, reviews and evaluates work for departmental student employee positions, including security dispatchers and shuttle drivers.
  • Coordinates University Shuttle Service operations, regulatory compliance, and university driver certification.

  • Distributes University ID cards, processing access requests for students, employees, and Anderson Center Tenants and assigning appropriate role-based access permissions to support University operations. Supports ID printing during new student welcome events which may occur outside working hours, including Fall/Winter Welcome Week.
  • Processes parking permit appeals and requests, distributes parking permits, manages and reviews citations issued by Security Officers, and verifies charges to student accounts.
  • Receives, records, and directs emergencies and calls for service as a university dispatcher. Reviews and ensures quality and completeness of dispatch records.
  • Support major campus events, such as Welcome Week, Homecoming, Festival of Christmas, or Commencement.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • This position requires patience and the ability to work closely with students, answer repetitive questions, and lead, train, and support student officers in all areas of their role.
  • Proven customer service experience and knowledge.
  • Ability to anticipate and solve problems with little direction.
  • Self-directed, able to work independently, yet function well as a member of a larger team.
  • Strong communication skills in verbal and written contexts.
  • Able to organize, complete, and manage multiple priorities promptly and effectively.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite required.
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate.
  • Must be able to handle sensitive, confidential information in a mature, professional manner.
  • Demonstrate a willingness and ability to learn and adopt new technology.
  • Must be able to handle sensitive, confidential information in a mature, professional manner.
  • Must be able to work in a sitting position at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Able to work in an office setting with multiple distractions and interruptions.

Experience

Required:

  • 1+ years of related experience.

Education

Required:

  • High School Diploma.

Additional Information

  • Complies with environmental health and safety requirements and procedures as outlined in University and State policies and directives.
  • This position is considered essential personnel and must be available outside of normal work hours, when needed, to support emergency response, contingency operations.
  • Summer maintenance work presents unique demands on the department and vacation opportunities are normally limited Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends due to graduation and welcome week events. Also, vacations are normally limited beginning the first full week of August through Labor Day due to preparations for the start of the school year.
  • Ability to pass 40-hour security training on Suspicious Indicator Recognition Assessment (SIRA) within one year of hire.
  • This is a 40-hour per week, 12-month per year position.
  • This position works in-person and is an essential role.
