Job Summary

Perform duties of a custodian, as well as others duties related to Facilities Management operations as assigned by the Housing Lead Supervisor and the Manager of Building Services.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and service lavatories, including toilets, vanity areas, and shower rooms.
  • Vacuum carpets and rugs in public areas. Collect loose debris and deposit it in the appropriate receptacles, remove liners of receptacles, place full liner in the appropriate collection area, and replace liner.  Clean receptacle when dirty.  
  • Sweep and mopping of floors, stairs (interior and exterior), and other hard surfaces.
  • Perform duties for Summer Conferences.
  • Windows and airlocks.  Wash windows, window sills, and door frames.
  • Clean and dust furniture, recreational equipment, walls, and interior doors.
  • Report items that need to be repaired.
  • Remove snow at buildings entrances, sidewalks, and exterior stairs.
  • Maintain and clean custodial equipment.

Required Skills

  • Requires general knowledge of cleaning terms and safety procedures related to Hazardous Chemicals. 
  • Ability to use cleaning equipment including a carpet cleaner, orbital scrubbing machine, and other light weight and heavy weight machines. 
  • Ability to move moderately heavy items. 
  • Be well organized and able to prioritize work. 
  • Must be able to work independently. 
  • Be able to build and maintain a good relationship with RD’s, RA’s, and other Facilities Management staff.  .
  • Must have a strong customer orientation and be committed to building a team that provides superior service to Bethel and local community. 

Experience

Minimum of 2 years custodial experience.

Education

High School degree or equivalent required.

Additional Information

  • Most work is performed inside.  Some projects may require traveling to various locations, both on and off campus.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.            
  • Requires working in and around chemicals.
  • Complies with environmental health and safety requirements and procedures as outlined in University and State policies and directives.
  • This position is considered essential personnel and must be available outside of normal working hours if needed to support contingency operations such as snow removal or support of special events.
