Job Summary

Serves as a people and culture consultant advising supervisors and employees in the areas of compensation, training, performance, employee relations, culture and organizational development. Responsible for aligning employees and supervisors in designated areas with university objectives. Oversees performance management and offboarding of employees.

Responsibilities

  • Develops partnerships with assigned areas to deliver value-added service to supervisors and employees that reflect the university objectives. Works closely with supervisors and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase effectiveness and retention.
  • Oversees Performance Management process for all staff employees including but not limited to: Managing and resolving complex employee relations and performance issues, through effective, thorough, and objective analysis.  Maintains professional working knowledge of the application of FMLA, ADA, disability, workers’ compensation absences, and other related laws to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.  Ensures complete Performance Review process occurs annually.
  • Creates and maintains written operations procedures and communicates procedures periodically to users, outside parties, internal staff and others to ensure structured approach to policy and procedures.  Suggests and refines all HR procedures and updates as appropriate.  Coordinates input for procedural updates, communicates through communication waterfall and ensures all stakeholders are aware of changes.  Maintains an effective level of business literacy about all HR areas, plans, and culture.
  • Ensures consistency in messaging to all employees regarding payroll, benefits and leave.  Maintains knowledge of benefit packages, payroll processes and processing, workers’ compensation light duty return to work, accommodation under ADA and other applicable law.
  • Provides input on organizational development issues, including but not limited to, department restructures. Consults with supervisors in identifying training and coaching needs for employees and teams. Partners with Director of Learning and Development in identifying and addressing training needs of supervisors.
  • Oversees all offboarding processes including: Assisting with separation information and communication to severing employees, exit interviews, notifications to appropriate Bethel staff and staffing groups, departments, divisions and outside vendors if appropriate, as well as providing support to supervisors/managers during termination conversations.  Coordinates these activities with other Bethel staff to ensure all documentation and processes are complete and up to date. Confirms accurate and complete documentation storage for all terminated/separated positions.
  • Responsible for providing back up to recruitment in high volume times and/or for specific positions.  This will include: partnering with supervisors, managers, and leadership to hire talent by anticipating and filling business needs. Leads the selection, sourcing, applicant screening, interviewing and presentation of top candidates to hiring managers. Responsible for pre-boarding process, including offer letters, ensuring a successful transition to the employee on-boarding program.
  • Maintains and refreshes compensation information from approved sources and provides recommendations for compensation adjustments.

Required Skills

  • Proven coaching skills are required with formal training or experience using mediation techniques preferred.
  • Must have excellent integrity, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with successful experience interfacing across all levels.
  • Must be detail-oriented.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and practices is necessary.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and work well in pressure situations.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and/or Google Workplace products; experience using an ERP system is preferred.
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a mature and professional manner is required.

Required Experience

5+ years of experience in Human Resources with proven successful experience in recruiting and employee relations required.

Required Education

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Business, or Organization Development or equivalent required. Master’s degree preferred; SPHR/PHR certification strongly preferred.
