  • Job Summary

    Assist the Head Coach as requested in recruiting, training and coaching members of the sport team. The assistant coach is expected to mentor student athletes in their holistic development, including nurturing their spiritual formation, giving attention to their physical well-being, monitoring their academic progress, and facilitating a team culture that produces vitality resulting in a high level of student athlete satisfaction and competitive success. Assist in overseeing all functions of the Rec Sports program.


    • Assist the Head Coach in overseeing practice planning and implementation including organizing and scripting a practice plan, utilizing staff and team film sessions, and scheduling in season weight room and conditioning sessions.
    • Assist the Head Coach in overseeing competition events by developing game strategy and establishing a focused approach for excellence in competition.
    • Assist the Head Coach in recruiting student athletes who are a good fit to the institution and have the capacity for high caliber play within the NCAA DIII arena and maintain expected roster sizes. Mentor and nurture the development of admitted athletes in all areas of their growth.
    • Foster and engage in harmonious departmental relationships and responsibly adhere to NCAA, MIAC and institutional rules, policy and expectation.
    • Assist in providing guidance for rec sports sponsored by the Bethel Athletic Department. Design the schedule for rec sports programming.
    • Assist in recruiting, hiring, training and overseeing student workers who officiate and administer daily rec sports programming.
    • Assist in caring for and storing the equipment designated for rec sports, and assist in securing rental facilities for off campus venues.
    • Assist in marketing all opportunities for rec sports participation to the student body.
    • Collaborate with the SRC Supervisor and Grounds Crew Supervisor to schedule events.

    Ability to organize and implement effective game and practice strategies.


    Working knowledge of the NCAA, MIAC and institutional rules and regulations.


    Playing and coaching experience at the collegiate level is preferred.


    Demonstrated ability to work alongside students in a cooperative and collaborative style.


    Self-motivated and detail oriented.


    Demonstrated organizational and problem solving abilities.


    Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.


    Demonstrated strong commitment to the recreational sport concept.


    Knowledge of sports management and the safety and legal guidelines for recreational sports.

    Required Experience

    Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the sport of hockey.

    Required Education

    Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

    Additional Information

    Requires active participation of administering practices and games.


    Requires evening and weekend work.


    Requires extended hours of work during the in-season of the sport.
    This is full-time, 12 month, exempt position
