  • Job Summary

    Prepare and implement activities which are designed to develop a range of social, cognitive, and/or motor skills for individual and/or groups of children. Oversee the development of the whole child. Provide a safe and nurturing environment for the children

    Responsibilities

    • Preschool classroom teacher - provide supervision and guidance to preschool age children, implement learning activities that meet the spiritual, social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs of these children. Conduct assessments and parent conferences, keep student files up to date and write weekly newsletter. Keep the children safe at all times.
    • Room set up; curriculum development; parent communication

    Required Skills

    • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
    • Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children.
    • Ability to instruct and successfully interact with very young children and/or adolescents.
    • Knowledge of child cognitive, social, and skills development methods and techniques.
    • Ability to plan, develop, and implement development activities and programs for children.
    • Knowledge of child supervision skills, development theory and practice.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
    • Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements and standards.
    • Knowledge of the application, safe usage, and maintenance requirements of relevant facilities and equipment.
    • Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.
    • Ability to manage and provide for the health, nutrition, and hygiene requirements of infants, young children, and/or adolescents.  Knowledge of basic food preparation techniques and standards.
    • Able to support Bethel University’s statement of Christian faith and share that faith and knowledge with students and clients.

    Required Experience

    Two years of experience working with young children.

    Required Education

    Position requires early childhood teaching license and bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education with a pre-primary specialty.

    Additional Information

    CPR and First Aid Certification required within 60 days of date of hire.

     

    This position participates in all staff meetings and retreats, maintains membership in and attends meetings and conferences of professional organizations appropriate for Early Childhood Education. There will be occasional evening commitments. 

     

    Position works 10 months out of the year,  40 hours a week.
