  • Job Summary

    The Development Specialist plays a vital role in University Advancement’s aim to cultivating lifelong relationships with Bethel’s alumni, parents and other partners to enrich their lives and to facilitate investments that will advance Bethel’s mission of transformational, Christ-centered education. The Development Specialist will provide skilled leadership to all annual fund objectives with a specific ownership of phone-a-thon, coffee club, and royal athletics as well as management of donor appreciation, retention and increase.


    • Focus on annual fund objectives by providing exceptional donor appreciation and stewardship.
    • Develop strategies for mailings, communications and outreach efforts for each level of assigned donor segments. Normal communicating include newsletters, emails, phone calls, direct mailings, thank you notes, birthday cards and occasional personal visits and special invitations.
    • Partner with development team on strategies for growing the base membership of Bethel Fund donors at all levels and partnering with Director of Annual Fund on communication strategies for acquiring, retaining and referring donors. 
    • Build relationships with donors focusing on annual fund objectives of retention and increase. Identify new initiatives to reach and exceed fundraising goals.
    • Manage daily operations and lead new initiatives for donor giving clubs including the Coffee Club. Build strategy for the Double Espresso Club and annual commitments from existing donors.
    • Manage the Royal Athletics Association including strategy and budget. Develop plans for cultivation and solicitation of Royal Athletics donors. Build donor relationships between the university and athletics donors who give $500 - $4,999 annually.
    • Create and manage on-campus fundraising events designed to educate, thank and solicit campus and community members. With a goal of increasing the donor pipeline as well as developing a pool of donor fundraisers. Stewardship of relationship with these donors who are deeply invested in Bethel. Oversee budget for the on-campus fundraising event program.
    • Provide leadership for execution of giving days, campaigns, events, etc. 
    • Recruit, hire, train, supervise and develop a team of student workers.
    • Develop, coordinate and manage all on-campus phone-a-thon campaign strategies. Build a culture of philanthropy among students. Analyze phone-a-thon statistics, process pledges and update donor records. 
    • Perform miscellaneous administrative duties as assigned including database updates, the creation of training materials, script writing, etc.

    • Attention to detail and an ability to execute multiple projects at once
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google apps
    • Knowledge of and experience with the Raiser’s Edge CRM database systems is a plus

    Required Experience

    A minimum of 2 years’ experience focused on building relationships with donors or sales. Experience in fund development, sales or project management preferred.

    Required Education

    A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field

    Additional Information

    • Ability to sit at desk for extended periods.
    • Evening work throughout the school year on phone-a-thon call nights to manage student workers (typically Monday and Wednesday nights).
    • This is a 40 hour per week, 12 month per year position.
    • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule including regular evening hours.
