  • Job Summary

    Assist the Director and manage day-to-day operations of the Security and Safety branch.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage reporting and day-to-day operations of security department. Assist the Director in planning, developing and overseeing safety and security programs. Analyze and mitigate threats through officer reports and contacts within other departments. Serve as the liaison officer for the Incident Response Team and maintains an active partnership with local and federal law enforcement, fire, medical and emergency management agencies. 
    • Performs security risk/ vulnerability/ threat assessments related performance and conducts physical surveys of premise security, including security equipment condition. Administer access control and video surveillance systems. Develop annual planning budget and estimates for access control. Assist the Director in developing programs to enhance personal and property protection. 
    • Manage security personnel actions for staff and student officers. Ensure policies, procedures and protocols are current and communicated to staff officers. Conduct training for Security and Safety to ensure compliance with state and federal mandates. 
    • Manage and Coordinate security and safety for University events. Provide annual planning budgets and forecast for additional security. Conduct follow-up investigations for incident reports. 
    • Manage fire code compliance for University as well as medical direction for emergency medical response. Manage annual maintenance of emergency response protocols. 
    • Patrol campus with staff officers 
    • Serves as primary on-call officer 
    • Assumes command in absence of Director 

     

    Required Skills

    • A working knowledge of security software and the ability to learn new systems is required. A working knowledge of the Clery Act, FERPA, Higher Education Opportunity Act, Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act, Incident Command Systems and the National Fires Protection Association (NFPA) codes are a plus.
    • Must possess strong organizational skills and be capable of working independently and as a team member in many different situations.
    • CPR/first aid experience preferred with “First Responder” training highly desirable.
    • Competence in the use of office technology including word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentation graphics applications is required.
    • Strong knowledge of security environments and hazards.
    • Applicant must have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Experience with Card Access Systems, Closed Circuit Television software, and other security technologies
    • Supervisory experience with an emphasis on team building.
    • Successful experience in Use of Force and Security Operations training.

     

    Required Experience

    4+ years of security experience; experience in higher education preferred. training experience required; Access control experience preferred.

    Required Education

    Bachelor’s degree. A law enforcement, security, public safety, or business management degree preferred or 4+ years of security, law enforcement supervisory experience.

    Additional Information

    • This is a 1.00 FTE, 12 month position.
    • Requires working in an office and patrolling.
    • Must be able to work to work in a sitting position at a computer or in a vehicle for extended periods of time.
    • Must be able to work outside in extreme and varied weather.
