  • Job Summary

    Manages and oversees the organization and execution of custodial services for all University facilities to ensure an excellent Bethel experience. Supervises the general and residence custodial staff and student personnel.


    • Develops, reviews, prioritizes, organizes, and schedules daily service and preventative custodial requirements and expectations, for the Building Services staff and all University facilities. Manages, trains, and develops building services staff to ensure all University facilities are cleaned effectively and efficiently and to APPA level 1 standards of excellence. Establishes and implements quality control procedures and corrective actions as needed. 
    • Provides exceptional customer service to the Bethel community through the execution of event set up needs, work orders and special requests. Works closely with conference and event services office and utilizes University event management system.
    • Develops capital and yearly projects for University flooring to include planning, budget estimates, plan/specification development or review, contractor bidding process and selection, project oversight or management, project communication, project closeout, and archiving of relevant historical maintenance information. 
    • Prepares, reviews, and provides on-going management of annual operating budget for all contracted service costs, supplies expenses, equipment maintenance, and building custodial maintenance needs. Manages selection and oversight of trash/recycling services. 
    • Manages Safety Data Sheets for building services cleaning chemicals. Manages campus storage area in maintenance building.
    • Ensures the planning, staffing, and accomplishment of all snow/ice removal procedures and operations apart from those accomplished by the Maintenance Services or Grounds teams.
    • Serve periodically as Manager on Duty in support of special events and operations.

    Required Skills

    • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing is essential; must be able to interact effectively with a wide variety of individuals including faculty, staff, students, contractors and vendors. Must possess strong organizational skills and be capable of working independently and as a team member in many different situations. Knowledge of cleaning industry best practices preferred.
    • Competence in the use of office technology including word processing, spreadsheets, databases and presentation graphics applications is required. Experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and project software strongly preferred.
    • Should have a working history which includes supervisory experience with an emphasis on team building with varied trade skills and experience levels.
    • Successful experience in capital project management and project budget analysis is preferred in addition to responsibility for developing and tracking large annual operating maintenance budgets. 

    Required Experience

    4+ years of related experience; Prior experience managing multiple commercial-sized buildings and properties as well as demonstrated effective oversight of daily service and periodic custodial services is strongly preferred.

    Required Education

    Bachelor's required in specific field.

    Additional Information

    • This is a 1.00 FTE, 12 month position. 
    • Must be able to work to work in a sitting position at a computer for extended periods of time.
    • Must be able to evaluate the exterior and interior cleanliness of buildings and inspect all types of custodial related or supported areas. 
    • Complies with environmental health and safety requirements and procedures as outlined in University and State policies and directives.
    • This position is considered essential personnel and must be available outside of normal work hours if needed to support emergency response, contingency operations such as snow removal or support of special events during evening and week-end assignments. 
    • Summer maintenance work presents unique demands on the department and vacation opportunities are normally limited during Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends due to graduation and welcome week events. Also, vacations are normally limited beginning the first full week of August through Labor Day due to the wrap-up of summer projects and preparation for the start of the school year.
    • Works outside normal business hours as necessary to complete essential functions.
