Job Summary

Design and build sets and design lighting for 5 theatrical productions each year in a variety of theatre configurations and in multiple theatre genres. Teach an appropriate theater class (e.g., "Stagecraft") and oversee students enrolled in "Projects in Performance."

  • Maintain theatre and all equipment and storage spaces
  • Find, purchase and organize props
  • Oversee students enrolled in "Projects in Performance"

Required Skills

Strong artistic vision and collaborative spirit.
Supervisory experience and strong organizational skills, including maintaining & organizing properties, set units, equipment and cleaning.
Good communication and interpersonal skills including creating a production calendar and attendance at technical rehearsals avoiding stressful time crunches.
Knowledge of theatre equipment and safe theatrical practices, including stagecraft, painting, carpentry, lighting, and rigging.
Find, purchase, and organize props.
Knowledge of hand-drafting.
Ability to read architectural plans and create models.
Ability to use Auto-Cad and Vectorworks.
Interest in working with undergraduate theatre artists.
Evidence of ability/aptitude to teach.
Ability to express a thoughtful Christian perspective on theatre as an artistic, expressive, and interpretive medium.

Required Experience

Minimum three years of professional set and light design experience in various venues or configurations (Proscenium, Thrust, Arena); expertise in designing for multiple theatre genres (e.g. Greek, Elizabethan, Neoclassic, Modern, Musicals.). Teaching experience desirable.

Required Education

B.A. in Theatre Arts required; M.A. or M.F.A. preferred.

Additional Information

Some standing and walking.
The following movements may be required: bending, squatting, stooping, kneeling, climbing stairs, reaching above shoulder level, waist twisting, carrying/lifting up to 30 pounds, gripping/grasping, and repetitive hand and arm movements.
The employee may be required to access areas that are not ADA compliant.
This is a full-time, salaried, 11-month benefits eligible position.
