Job Summary

Executes the collection efforts for all Bethel University’s delinquent Perkins loans and accounts receivables. Ensures collections efforts are in compliance with applicable regulatory standards as well as Bethel University’s mission and values.

Responsibilities

  • Perform collection efforts for past due and delinquent student accounts 
  • Perform recovery and compliance efforts on current and past due Perkins Loans 
  • Manage contracted third party billing agency (ECSI) which services over $5,000,000 in debt including directing data conversion and transmission. 
  • Administer Federal reporting which includes assigning uncollectable loans, responding to consumer disputes, and providing reports to the government, auditors and internal constituents. 
  • Manage Third Party Collection Agencies, negotiating contracts for services, monitoring performance, cancelling contracts and reassigning them as needed and reviewing requests for litigation and approving settlements. 
  • Reconciles the University’s general ledger with ECSI records.
  • Implement and maintain collection practices and procedures for Perkins loans and delinquent accounts receivables.

Required Skills

  • Must have a working knowledge of enterprise systems, preferably Banner Student Accounts, and knowledge of Sal-Net systems at ECSI, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • The ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with alumni, parents and collection agencies is required.
  • Must have a proven ability to negotiate contracts and payment arrangements.
  • Ability to work independently is needed.
  • Must have a strong attention to detail and a proven ability to manage spreadsheets and other data sources.

Required Experience

3+ years of collections, customer service or related experience. Prior experience in an education setting is preferred. Prior call center experience is preferred.

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree preferred with an emphasis in business or accounting preferred.

 

Additional Information

  • Must be able to work at a computer in a sitting position for extended periods of time.
  • This is a FTE 1, 12 month position.
