Job Summary

Contributes to the marketing, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of planned gifts to increase both the quantity and size of estate, life-income, and other planned gifts in support of Bethel University’s mission.


  • Build & maintain a portfolio of approximately 125 planned giving prospects 
  • Assist in planning and implementing planned giving marketing efforts Serve as donor liaison to the Bethel Fund leadership 
  • Assist Major Gift Officers in identifying planned gift prospects, offering planned giving solutions, and presenting planned giving proposals 
  • Prepare planned gift solutions using proprietary software 
  • Serve as donor liaison to the Bethel Fund leadership 

Required Skills

  • Excellent writing, research and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrate intermediate level experience using Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Google docs, as well as Crescendo Interactive software. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain relationships at all organizational levels, is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to solicit and secure planned charitable gifts leadership gifts.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge, ability and personality necessary to convey to alumni, friends, corporations, foundations and other contributors the need, propriety and benefit of charitable investment in institutions of higher education.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to plan activities and manage schedule to attain goal results.
  • Knowledge of fundamental planned giving techniques and benefits.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive, confidential information professionally.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain timely and complete record of activities, results, and planned follow up to discussions.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop social relationships based upon common purpose.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with peers and others to collaborate in accomplishment of team goals.

Required Experience

5+ years of related experience preferably in planned giving fund raising, legal, financial services, or financial estate planning.

Required Education

A bachelor’s degree is required and an advanced degree is preferred.

Additional Information

The incumbent is expected to meet personally with donors for purposes of cultivation and stewardship; the position requires 60% travel including overnight travel with occasional weekend travel. Hosts donors and events both at Bethel University and in various other locations as appropriate.
