Job Summary

To supervise all custodial responsibilities for the College Academic buildings


  • Supervise 3rd shift custodial staff and student workers: responsible for assigning tasks and responsibilities on a nightly basis. Tracks and approves all 3rd shift staff and student timesheets. Responsible for training of 3rd shift staff and student workers. Monitors and checks on student and staff work making sure they are maintaining quality expectations and standards. 
  • Supports the Bethel community through daily work orders and assigned tasks which include, but are not limited to: vacuum all hallways, lounges and common areas; straighten and arrange all lounge furniture as needed; and schedule deep cleaning of all carpets in hallways, lounges and common areas. Maintain and prepare the gym and racquetball floors; maintain the fitness room; empty all trash and recycling as needed. Auto scrub BC tile floors; vacuum and shampoo all walk off mats, and vacuum and maintain the HC 4th floor library and offices, and facilities and security office suites. 
  • Responsible for securing the academic complex. Verify all event setups for the next day have been completed, and that all areas are clean and ready to use. Perform security rounds which include monitoring all building systems and alarms, respond as first responder to any and all issues, contact the appropriate emergency on-call personnel as needed; report any non-emergency maintenance needs via the work order system. Check that all interior and exterior doors are securely locked at the beginning of the shift; unlock all assigned interior and exterior doors at the end of the shift. Monitor all late night passes and escort anyone without a pass out of the building. 

Required Skills

  • Must have working knowledge of swing machines, floor scrubbers and vacuums.
  • Must have a strong customer orientation and be committed to building a team that provides superior service to bethel and local community. 

Required Experience

2+ years of related experience required; Prior experience in leadership and procedures as outlined in University and State policies and directives preferred.

Required Education

High School degree or equivalent required

Additional Information

  • Primary work environment is indoors, however occasional work outdoors is required regardless of weather conditions. Work environment includes exposure to standard cleaning chemicals and products, as well as exposure to high concentrations of airborne dust. This position requires continuous walking for an hour or more at one time, several times per shift. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Complies with environmental health and safety requirements and procedures as outlined in University and State policies and directives.
  • This position is considered essential personnel and must be available outside of normal working hours if needed to support contingency operations such as snow removal or support of special events. Summer maintenance work presents unique demands on the department and vacation opportunities are normally limited near Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends due to graduation and welcome week events. Also, vacations are also normally limited beginning the first full week of August through Labor Day due to the wrap-up of summer projects and preparation for the start of the school year.
  • 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. This position works Sundays-Thursdays from 11:00 p.m.-7:00 a.m.
